Martin Pavicic is joining DCC Basketball Staff

The Dawson Community College Men’s Basketball team hired Martin Pavicic as an assistant coach for the 2019-2020 season.  Pavicic spent last season as a Graduate Assistant at NCAA D2 Northwestern Oklahoma State working under head coach Shawn Dirden who recently joined Danny Sprinkle’s staff at Montana State University. Before working at the D2 level, Pavicic was the Associate Head Coach for Combine Academy in Charlottle, NC.  Combine is one of the top prep schools in the nation and Pavicic assisted seven of those players to move on to the NCAA D1 level.  Pavicic also has experience working at the junior college level from his time as a student assistant at Otero Junior College.

Pavicic’s Bachelor’s Degree is in Health and Sports Science Education and he is working on a Master’s Degree in Adult Education with an emphasis on Sports Administration and Management.

DCC Head Coach Joe Peterson praised his new assistant, “Martin’s greatest quality is his strong work ethic.  He is driven to be excellent at everything he does and wants his teams to also be excellent.  He doesn’t settle for anything less than that personally and doesn’t allow his players to settle for anything less than the best. His experience at multiple levels will be very valuable to our program and he has worked with some great coaches along the way.  I’m excited also for his good recruiting connections and ability to bring high quality players to our program in the future.  We had dozens of quality candidates who applied for the job, but Martin stood out for his passion and drive.”

The new coach shared his thoughts, “I am blessed and honored to be joining Coach Peterson’s staff at Dawson Community College. The success of the program is what made me so attracted to this position from the beginning. I look forward to helping this program grow to new heights. I also look forward to helping our young men to not only get their degree, but also to help them reach their personal and athletic goals. I’m very excited to be joining the Dawson family! Go Bucs!!”

Pavicic replaces former Coach Emmanuel Bland who recently took a job working with the Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association.
