DCC Men’s Basketball Set for Opening Round of Tournament

The Dawson Community College Buccaneers will be the #3 seed on the road in Williston, ND to play in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region XIII Conference Tournament against #6 seed Bismarck State College.  The game is scheduled for Thursday, February 28th at 5:30 pm CST.  The winner will play in the semifinal round versus the #2 seed North Dakota State College of Science on Friday, March 1st at 5:30 pm CST.  The championship game is on Saturday, March 2nd at 3:00 pm CST. Williston State College is the host for the conference tournament.  The Tetons earned that right by winning the regular season Mon-Dak Conference title with a 12-2 record.  Their only losses were to Dawson and North Dakota State College of Science.

DCC is 2-0 against the Bismarck State in regular season play.  The Bucs beat the Mystics twice this year already including a 103-69 victory this past Sunday in Glendive.  Bismarck is the second highest scoring team in the conference this year at 90.1 points per game, but Dawson held them to their lowest output in their 14 conference games.  The Bucs finished the conference season as the #1 defensive team in the conference, holding opponents to 72.7 ppg and limiting opponents to 41.9% shooting from the field. They were also #1 in steals per game with 11.6 and in forced turnovers with 20.5 per game which was 4 more than the next closest team.  Dawson was also the best team in the conference on the offensive glass and the best in overall rebounding margin at +5.4 on the season.

If the Bucs win their quarterfinal match-up with Bismarck, they will face the four-time defending champions, North Dakota State College of Science.  Dawson’s overall record is 19-11 and their conference record is 10-4, good enough for third place and just one game out of second and two games out of first.  They beat every team in the conference this year with splits against Williston, Science, Miles and Lake Region and season sweeps over United Tribes, Dakota College and Bismarck.
