DCC Point Guard Travon Hamilton has signed to play for the Dickinson State University Blue Hawks next season. Hamilton started 28 games this year for the Bucs and helped them to a 24-8 record on the year. The Charleston, South Carolina native averaged 6 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds a game while playing 25 minutes per game as a true freshman.
Dickinson State is an NAIA school that competes in the North Star Conference. Head Coach Josh Vaughan took the job right before the season last year when DCC Alum Justin Wetzel left for a coaching job in the NBA Developmental League. Vaughan guided the Blue Hawks to a 16-13 record in his first year. Hamilton will meet several familiar faces at his new school as Dickinson has already signed Michael Vandall from Williston State College, Melvin Collins from Bismarck State College and former DCC Buccaneer Christian Kappel.
Hamilton reminisced about his year in Glendive, “Dawson really tested me mentally as a freshman making me a better player and man. Giving me all the credentials I need to excel at the next level. DCC Coach Joe Peterson praised his young point guard, “We had a lot of talent on this year’s team and Travon stepped into the point guard position as a freshman and held everything together on both ends of the floor. We were a much better team when he was on the floor. He had troubles getting back to campus after Christmas, but once we got him integrated back into the rotation, we won 10 of our last 11 before losing in the Region XIII Championship Game. He is a selfless player who doesn’t care about stats, but will do whatever it takes to win.”
Dickinson opens their 2018-2019 schedule with a game vs. Minot State on October 14th. Many of their non-conference games are against Montana Schools like Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain College, MSU-Northern and MSU-Billings.
Hamilton is excited for this next step, “Coach Vaughan seems like a really good guy and he actually believes in what I can contribute to Dickinson State University.”
