DCC Bucs Fall to Sheridan College

DCC Bucs Fall to Sheridan College

On the second day of the Big Horn Federal Classic, the Sheridan College Generals easily took care of The Dawson Community College Buccaneers.  Sheridan scored on their first five possessions and never looked back.  The Generals shot lights out in the first half, hitting on 67% of their field goal attempts, 50% of their three-pointers and 81% from the line.  The Bucs also helped them out by turning it over 15 times.  Despite the poor start, Dawson was still in striking distance until Sheridan scored 9 straight to end the half.  They led 53-30 at intermission.  Leading score Channel Banks scored 17 while 4 others scored 8 or more.  Nobody was in double figures for the Bucs.

The second half started just like the first half ended with Sheridan scoring the first 7 points after the break and building a 29 point lead at one point.  They cooled off in the 2nd half though as DCC held them to 37% shooting.  Dawson played much stronger in the 2nd half, outscoring Sheridan 32-28 and handled the ball much better, committing only 5 turnovers.  But it wasn’t enough to overcome the large halftime deficit and the Bucs lost their 2nd consecutive game of the season 81-62.  The loss puts the Bucs at 10-3 and Sheridan is now 12-1.  Five Generals finished in double figures with Banks leading the charge scoring 21 points.  AJ Bramah contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Brent Finn was the lone bright spot for the Bucs, scoring 17 points.  Simon Falokun was the only other one in double figures with 12 points.

DCC Coach Joe Peterson wasn’t pleased, “I think we are a much better team than we showed this weekend, but we need to get tougher if we want to battle with good teams.  Not having Bret Vester’s physical presence inside hurt us, but that just means other guys have to step up.  We have the ability and the depth to compete better.  I need to do a better job of building that toughness mentally and physically.”

Vester missed the games this weekend because of illness but is expected back soon.

DCC will play in the Battle of the Badlands Round II at Miles City on Wednesday night at 7:30 before returning home to play Northwest College on Friday at 3:30 pm.
