The accolades keep rolling in for the Dawson Community College Men’s Basketball Team. After a successful 24-8 season and reaching the Region XIII Championship Game, two of the Buccaneers were among the eight players selected on the NJCAA Division I Region XIII All-Region Team. Brent Finn of Big Timber, Montana and Simon Falokun of Houston, Texas received the honor this past week.
Finn, a 6’0 sophomore guard, led the Buccaneers in scoring by averaging 18.1 ppg while shooting 45.6% from the 3-point line and 90.2% from the free throw line in conference play. He ranked 1st in the league in free-throw percentage and 2nd in 3-point percentage. He also scored in double figures in 29 of the 32 games this season. He finished the regular season by going 15-24 from the 3-point line in the final two games. His season high was 28 points on February 15th against Dakota College Bottineau.
Falokun, a 6’9 freshman forward, was a force inside for the Buccaneers, averaging 16.7 ppg and 10.3 rpg in league play and shot 57% from the field for the season. He led the league by averaging 18.7 rebounds per 40 minutes and was 2nd in offensive rebounds. Falokun scored in double digits in every game this season except for one and posted 16 double-doubles on the season. His season high in scoring was 30 points against Bismarck State on January 29th when he connected on 10-12 shots from the field. His season high in rebounding was 18 which he did twice on the season including a December 6th game at Miles Community College.
DCC Coach Joe Peterson was pleased at the recognition his players received, “When the team is successful, everyone benefits. Our team’s success was very close related to how well Simon and Finn played. They carried us at times this year. Simon’s inside presence and tenacity on the boards were a perfect complement to Finn’s outside shooting and ability to score. Good teams usually have good balance. More importantly, both of these young men have outstanding character and are excellent students in the classroom. They represented our program, college and community exceptionally. Simon and Brent embody what we look for in our student-athletes on the court as well as off the court.
