Kolberg Field

Over a year of planning and hard work went into designing and building the new DCC recreational complex. In October of 2003 the results of that hard work started to take shape. The dedication of the B.L. Baker Memorial softball field and the Kolberg baseball field took place on October 4th. After the dedication the baseball and softball teams took to the fields for their first games on their new fields.

Construction of the complex began in the fall of 2002 beginning with leveling the landscape and preparing the site for building. The majority of the construction was finished by fall of 2003. Some of the finishing touches included planting trees, and volunteers spent hours helping roll out sod on the field.

A generous donation of $50,000 made by Hilde Baker was earmarked for a women’s softball field and an equally generous donation of $50,000 by the Kolberg Family to the College provided for the baseball field. In addition to these donations, a $75,000 grant was secured from the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks to complete the project.

Even with the completion of the fields, there are still a few remaining projects to complete the complex. These include a paved walkway from the student dorms, seating around the fields, a concession stand, public restrooms, and locker rooms for the players. A sledding hill and ice skating rink are planned to offer public winter time activities to the complex. Currently there has been no timeline set for finishing these projects.
