Dawson’s Casey Rounseville Selected for Volunteerism Award

Apr 11, 2024

Dawson student Casey Rounseville was chosen for the Montana Student Volunteer Award by Campus Compact of Montana. On top of the 20 plus hours of community service he did with the Dawson Baseball team this past year, Casey Rounseville also mows anywhere from 5-7 lawns a week for elderly or handicap residents of his neighborhood and he has not collected a single penny in compensation. In winter he plows the driveways for these same people; and, if he has time, he will plow everyone's driveway in the entire neighborhood just out of the kindness of his heart. Once on a baseball road trip, while stopped at a gas station, a stranger in front of us didn't have enough money to buy their items, Casey immediately stepped to the front of the line and purchased their items for them. Over this past summer Casey interned at Sidney Petroleum full time. Despite working a 40 hour a week job, he still found time to volunteer private baseball lessons once a week to two young Glendive community members.

His coach Tyler Pollock commented about Casey, "I know these acts are not any sexy community initiatives, or well known groups or organizations. Casey has just shown his team and community some good ole fashioned humanitarianism. This is something in smaller communities and in today's society that I feel gets overlooked because it doesn't have a fancy title or organization attached to it. I can just tell you that Casey Rounseville just leads in his community with pure human spirit."

The criteria for the award includes being enrolled at a Montana Campus Compact affiliate institution, recent volunteer experience within the state of Montana or through their college, willingness to receive the award at an agreed-upon campus event.
