Bucs OF/LHP Heading to Emmanuel College

DCC freshman OF/LHP, Thomas Rutherford, has committed to play for Emmanuel College in the 2018-2019 season. The two way player transferred in at winter break from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. The freshman from Aurora, Colorado saw time in the outfield as well as on the mound for the Bucs this past spring. Head Coach Chris Lewis stated, “Thomas had a great year despite getting hurt early in the spring break trip down in Arizona. He still has 3 years of eligibility left so it is going to be really fun to follow him and see how he develops along the way. He has some good pop in his bat and is extremely competitive, as long as he can control his competitive nature, he is going to have a solid career. He is a great young man, we were happy he chose to come to Dawson and we are even happier that he has found a home at the four-year level.”

In his freshman season at the plate, Rutherford hit .353 with 5 homeruns, .469 OB% and slugged .706. On the mound, he had 22 strike-outs in 19 innings, good for 10.42 K/9 innings.

Emmanuel College is located in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The Lions are a member of The Conference Carolinas at the NCAA DII level.
