Baseball Athletes Awarded Conference Honors

Two Dawson Community College Baseball players were named Mon-Dak All- Conference honors.

Head Coach Chris Lewis had the luxury of having the Most Valuable Player in Reynaldo Pichardo and All-Conference outfielder Gunnar Garpestad.  Pichardo hit 1 home run every 11 at-bats with statistics including a batting average of .506, on-base percentage of .604 and a slugging percentage of .831.

Assistant Coach Aaron Leanhardt said, "Reynaldo joined us in January and filled an immediate need at catcher.  He hit in the heart of our lineup every day and delivered a stat line well-worth the MON-DAK Conference MVP Award.  Reynaldo finished the season by going 10-for-15 with 3 doubles and 3 home runs in the conference tournament, which left no doubt in my mind about who was the best player in the MON-DAK Conference."

"As our lead-off hitter, Gunnar set the tone every day for an offense that scored nearly 6 runs per game this season.  On top of that, he was a lock-down defender in center field who came to play every day with a workman-like demeanor.  I am very proud of what Gunnar accomplished during his two years at Dawson CC -- both on and off the field.  His All-Conference selection is a distinction very well deserved."

Gunnar has signed to play for Mayville State University (Mayville, ND), an NAIA school that plays in the North Star Conference.
