Dawson Community College Athletic Department Report


2015-2016

We had 90 student-athletes compete in our 5 athletic programs including:

-        6 from Dawson County

-        47 from Montana

-        35 from other states

-        8 International

Our student-athletes represent 10 states and 5 countries

 

Academic Highlights

-        20 student-athletes graduated from DCC in May

-        Women’s Basketball had a team GPA of 3.32

-        Softball had a team GPA of 3.25

-        40 student-athletes were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference (out of 70 who were eligible)

-        The overall Athletic Department had a GPA of 3.00 for the 90 student-athletes

 

Community Highlights

-        Student-athletes volunteered for over 2,000 hours of community service including helping with Special Olympics, Special Needs Clinic, local track meets, Boys and Girls Club, Hike for Hope (Relay for Life), local schools, picking up trash, delivering meals to elderly people and many other ways. 

-        12 Student-athletes participated with the community in the Adopt-A-Buc Program

-        3 Student-athletes were a part of the DCC Associated Student Body

-        Raised over $91,000 through fundraisers

-        Attracted 48 new members to Buc’s Club

-        Buc’s Club fundraising increased by 61% ($5,807.51) this year compared to the average of the past two years

-        Hosted over 500 fans for Meet the Bucs Night

-        Hosted 300 local kids for free basketball clinics in the Spring

-        Hosted 70 local kids for summer basketball camp

-        Hosted a 25 team high school basketball tournament on campus

-        Over 5,000 fans attended sporting events at DCC this year

-        Around 100 community members use the walking track, weight room and cardio room facilities at the Toepke Center each week and around 500 use these facilities at some point throughout the year.  

 

Women’s Basketball Highlights- NJCAA Division I (45th season):

-        Improved win total from last season

-        Double digit wins

-         Led the country in scoring and rebounding early in the season

-        Rachael Ault led the country in scoring early in the season

-        9 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

-        Ranked #3 Nationally in the WBCA Academic Top 25 

-        Ranked #16 Nationally in the NJCAA Academic Team Award out of 407 school members

Men’s Basketball Highlights- NJCAA Division I (58th season):

-        Improved win total from last season

-        Region XIII Runners-up

-        Hosted a Region XIII Tournament Semifinals game at home

-        Beat the #25 team in the country

-        Lost on a buzzer beater to the #3 team in the country

-        Evan Jones was named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference 1st Team

-        Christian Kappel was named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference 2nd Team

-        Evan Jones and Christian Kappel were named to the NJCAA All-Region XIII Team

-        7 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

 

Softball Highlights- NJCAA Division II (19th season):

-        Improved win total from last season

-        Mon-Dak Conference Champions

-        Region XIII Champions

-        Coach Jim LeProwse was the Mon-Dak Conference and Region XIII Coach of the Year

-        Rachael Dillon was named NJCAA All-American 3rd Team

-        Rachael Dillon was named MVP of Region XIII

-        Rachael Dillon, Sidney Bushard, McKayla Sanchez and Taylor Allman were named to the NJCAA All-Region XIII Team

-        Taylor Allman was named Mon-Dak Conference MVP Pitcher

-        Rachael Dillon, McKayla Sanchez, Emily Allman, Abbie Tuttle and Caide Hunt were named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team

-        Cassidy Wall and Taylor Allman were named to the NFCA Division 2 Midwest Region 1st Team

-        5 sophomores received scholarships to continue playing next year at a four-year schools

-        17 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

 

Baseball Highlights- NJCAA Division II (19th season):

-        Improved win total by 12 games from last season

-        Mon-Dak Conference Tournament Champions

-        Hosted the 4 team Region XIII Baseball Tournament

-        Mike Severson was named NJCAA All-American 3rd Team

-        Rylan Shimer and Mike Severson were named to the NJCAA All Region XIII team and D2 North Plains All-District Team

-        Rylan Shimer was named as the Mon-Dak Conference MVP Pitcher

-        Mike Severson was the Mon-Dak Conference MVP Runner-up

-        Ryan Caron, Andrew Bowles and Karson Hanosky were named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team

-        7 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

 

Rodeo Highlights- NIRA Big Sky Region (44th season):

-        Layton Bohlman competed in the NIRA National College Rodeo Finals

-        Selected as the Most Improved Rodeo in the Region

-        Rodeo Coach Kortney Diegel was the Regional Coach of the Year

-        Ryder Bohlman and Layton Bohlman finished 4th in Team Roping in the NIRA Big Sky Region

-        Webb O’Neill finished 6th in Bull Riding in the NIRA Big Sky Region

-        Calder Peterson finished 6th in Bareback Riding in the NIRA Big Sky Region

-        Jessie Orahood finished 8th in Goat Tying in the NIRA Big Sky Region

-        Brady Croy finished 11th in Saddle Bronc Riding in the NIRA Big Sky Region

 

2016-2017

Goals

-        Continue to battle for conference championships while also helping student-athletes be successful in the classroom and serving in the community

-        Graduate twice as many student-athletes as the year before

-        Increase the number of community service hours by 50%

-        Host more conference tournaments and conference tournament games

-        Help more of our student-athletes move on to 4 year colleges to continue their athletic and academic careers

-        Increase our Buc’s Club membership by 50 more members and 50% more income

-        Better engage the students, community and alumni with the athletic department which will result in higher attendance and increased financial support
